Browse chapters and scenes
Chapters shows the shape of your book: every chapter, the scenes in it, and what's linked to each scene.
See your chapters
Click Chapters in the sidebar, or choose Go ▸ Chapters (⌃⌘C). Each chapter has a card showing its number, title, file name, how many scenes and words it has, and how many continuity items are still open in it.
Click a chapter's card to open it.
Open a scene
A chapter's page lists its scenes on the left, with their word counts. Click a scene to see its page:
- Read this scene opens the chapter in the reader at that scene. See Read a chapter.
- What changed here shows every recorded pass that touched the scene. See Look back through your history.
- The opening words of the scene, or its summary if you've turned scene summaries on. See Choose how Colophon reads your files.
- In this scene lists the characters, locations, threads and timeline entries linked to the scene. Click one to go to its page, or click Add someone or something… to link another. See Connect your bible to your scenes.
- Continuity here lists the continuity items filed against the scene. Click File an item about this scene to add one. See Track continuity.
Click History at the top of a chapter's page to see every pass recorded on that chapter, or click ‹ Chapters to go back.
If a chapter has no scenes
If Colophon finds no scenes in a chapter, its page says so. Usually the chapter's scene headings aren't the kind the current format looks for. See Prepare your chapter files.
