Connect your bible to your scenes
Links are what turn your bible into answers. Link a character to the scenes they're in, and Colophon can tell you who they share scenes with, which continuity items concern them, and where they turn up in your history.
Link from a bible page
On a character, location or thread page, click Link a scene… under Scenes. On a timeline entry, it's under Where it surfaces.
- Choose a Chapter, then a Scene.
- Click Link.
To remove a scene, click × on it.
Link from a scene
- On a scene's page in Chapters, click Add someone or something….
- In the reader, click Add someone to this scene… at the end of the scene.
Choose a Kind — characters, locations, threads or timeline — and Which one, then click Add.
Two kinds of connection
- Appears with is worked out by Colophon. It lists everything that shares a scene with this page, and how many scenes they share. It updates itself as you link scenes, so there's nothing to maintain.
- Also linked is what you say yourself. Use it for connections the scenes can't show — two sisters who never meet on the page, or a location that belongs to a character. Click Link…, choose a Kind and Which one, then click Link. The link shows on both pages.
Continuity items connect the same way: from a bible page, click Link an existing item…, or file a new item from the page. See Track continuity.
When a linked scene changes
Colophon remembers what a scene looked like when you linked it. If the scene has since been rewritten, or it's no longer in your manuscript under the current format, a note appears beside the link. The link is kept exactly as you made it, so you can decide whether it still belongs.
