Threads
A thread is a promise your book makes to the reader and has to keep: a secret that will come out, a relationship that has to end, a habit that will finally break. Threads track the arc. Continuity items track the details underneath it.
Add a thread
- Click Threads in the sidebar.
- Click New thread.
- Type a Name and, if you like, The promise — what this thread tells the reader is coming.
- Click Add.
Follow a thread
Click a thread in the list to see its page. Click any field to edit it. Colophon saves your change when you click away.
- State — open while the book still owes the reader, landed once it has paid off, or abandoned if you've dropped it.
- Continuity — items about this thread. Click File an item about this thread or Link an existing item….
- Payoff — where the thread lands, and in which scene. Fill this in when it lands.
- Where it stands — what has happened so far, and what's still owed.
- Scenes — the scenes that carry the thread. Click Link a scene… to add one.
- Appears with and Also linked work as they do for characters. See Characters and locations.
The list shows each thread's state, its scene count and its open continuity items.
To delete a thread, click Delete thread at the bottom of its page. This can't be undone.
