Characters and locations
Character and location pages are where the small facts live: what someone looks like, which floor a room is on, and every scene they turn up in.
Add a character or location
- Click Characters or Locations in the sidebar.
- Click New character or New location. For a character, you can also choose File ▸ New Character… (⇧⌘C).
- Type a Name. You can also add a Role for a character, or What it is for a location.
- Click Add.
Fill in a page
Click a character or location in the list to see its page. Click any field to edit it — including the name at the top. Colophon saves your change when you click away.
A character page has these sections, and a location page has the same ones with its own labels:
- Continuity — items about this character. Click File an item about this character to add one, or Link an existing item… to connect one you've already filed.
- Who they are (for a location, What it's like) — anything you need to keep believing about them.
- Scenes — the scenes they appear in. Click Link a scene… to add one, or click × on a scene to remove it.
- Appears with — everyone and everything that shares a scene with them, and how many scenes they share. Colophon works this out from your scene links, so there's nothing to keep up to date.
- Also linked — connections you make yourself, such as two characters who are related but never share a scene. Click Link… to add one.
To find someone quickly, type in the Filter… field above the list. The list shows how many scenes and open continuity items each one has.
See Connect your bible to your scenes for more about links.
Delete a character or location
Click Delete character or Delete location at the bottom of the page. Its links go with it. Continuity items about it stay, but no longer point to it. This can't be undone.
