Search your book
Search looks through your chapters, your bible and every revision you've recorded, all at once — so you can find a sentence in today's draft, or one you cut months ago.
Search
- Choose Go ▸ Search (⌘F), or click Search in the sidebar.
- Type a phrase you remember writing.
Results are grouped into scenes, continuity items, threads, characters, locations, timeline entries and passes. Click a result to go to it. A scene result opens the reader at that passage.
How Colophon matches
- Colophon looks for the phrase exactly as you type it: every word, in that order, punctuation included.
- Capital letters don't matter, and neither do straight or curly quotes. An en dash and an em dash are different characters.
- Colophon waits until you've typed two characters. To search for a single character, press Return.
- If nothing is found, try a shorter phrase or fewer words.
Find what you cut
The Passes group finds your phrase in recorded passes — in text you added, text you removed, and the notes you wrote. Removed text is labelled, so you can see which pass took a sentence out.
If your chapters aren't searched
If the document has no manuscript folder, or Colophon can't reach it, search still looks through your bible and your recorded passes, and tells you your chapters weren't searched. See If Colophon asks for a folder or document again.
