Colophon

If Colophon asks for a folder or document again

Your Mac only lets an App Store app open files and folders you've chosen for it. Colophon remembers what you choose, so it rarely needs to ask twice.

"Choose … to carry on"

The first time you reopen certain documents after quitting Colophon — for example, one you opened by double-clicking it in the Finder, or one you've just created — a file panel may open on the folder that holds the document, with a message naming it.

  1. Select the document the message names.
  2. Click Open.

The document opens, and Colophon won't ask for it again.

"Colophon needs access to your manuscript folder"

The Manuscript screen shows this when Colophon can't read the folder it was given.

  1. Click Choose folder….
  2. Select the same manuscript folder, then click Open.

"Reconnect your manuscript folder"

The Manuscript screen shows this when the folder isn't where it used to be — for example, if you moved or renamed it, or it's on a drive that isn't connected.

  1. If it's on an external drive, connect the drive.
  2. Click Reconnect… and select the folder where it is now.

If the chapters in the folder you choose aren't the ones the document tracks, Colophon warns you before attaching it. See Attach your manuscript folder.

If a document in Recent won't open

If you've moved, renamed or deleted a document, its row in Recent can no longer open it. Choose File ▸ Open Document… (⌘O) and select it where it is now.

If something else goes wrong, the error log records what failed. See Use the error log.
