Use the error log
When something fails, Colophon writes a line in its error log. If you need help, the log shows what happened.
Open the error log
Choose Help ▸ Error Log…. You can open it whether or not a document is open.
Entries are listed newest first, with a description of what failed and when. If nothing has gone wrong, the log says so.
Send the log
- Copy puts the log on the clipboard, ready to paste into a message.
- Save… saves the log as a plain text file you can attach to an email.
- Mail… starts an email in your mail app with the log in it. If the log is too long to fit, use Save… instead.
Copies of the log leave out the names of your files, so a chapter title never travels in a bug report. They include the version of Colophon you're using.
Click Clear to empty the log, or Done to close it.
The error log stays on your Mac. Nothing in it is sent anywhere unless you copy, save or mail it yourself.
